Orientation Process

All new employees, regardless of their prior experience, begin their employment with a three-week orientation period.  The first 2 weeks covers a number of important topics about our organization and what we do. The topics include the following:

Policy Orientation:

  • Orientation handbook

  • Company Policy & Procedures

  • County Protocols

Map reading skills assessment:

  • Including a map test, do determine what additional training is necessary to make the employee familiar with the communities we serve.

Review of documentation requirements.

Driver training course, including:

  • Three to four hours of classroom instruction

  • Wheelchair van in-service

  • Neonate in-service

  • Obstacle Course

  • Emergency driving

Review of equipment and techniques used on the job, including:

  • Unit maintenance

  • Infection control

  • Importance of documentation

Tours of the company’s service area

 

Introduced to company leadership

 

Uniform fitting

 

The third week of orientation consist of " third rides" on the ambulance, where they are required to demonstrate driving, initial skills in various areas, and knowledge of paperwork and procedures.   In addition to the three third rides they also are required to spend four hours in the Communications Center observing that important role.

 

The new employee is then assigned to the New Employee Training (NET) Program.
