Ambulances

HVA owns approximately seventy (70) ambulances, which are used throughout our 8-county service area.  We operate four basic life support ambulances from our central support facility in Ann Arbor.  The remainder of our units are licensed as paramedic units.

For paramedic ambulances, HVA uses late model Type III National ambulances which are built on Ford chassis.  These are not mini-mods.  They are full sized, dual rear wheel ambulances.  Though more expensive, we believe that dual-rear wheel ambulances are safer.

Our ambulances rebuilt on new chassis' every four years in urban areas, and every six years in our rural stations.  During the rebuild process, the modular patient compartments are completely refurbished to a new condition.

Our four BLS ambulances are in Type II vans, which are replaced every four years.  These units are typically used for non-emergency transports and often go long distances returning patients home from major tertiary care hospitals in Ann Arbor.

Ambulances are well maintained every 2,500 miles by our certified mechanics in our Ann Arbor and Jackson maintenance facilities.
