FAQ - Is HVA Accredited?

HVA and our operating units (JCA, MCA, LCA and ACA) have been nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) since 1993.  CAAS is the ambulance industry's independent accrediting body.  Accreditation periods are three years and then require renewal.  Only 100 ambulance services in the United States are accredited.

Many ambulance services feel they do a good job, but the true test is when you ask an independent accrediting body to compare your policies and practices against a national "gold" standard.  In addition to reviewing our operating policies, CAAS sends an emergency- physician led site team to our operations to talk with our staff, local physicians, agencies and our customers.

Our Paramedic Education program is also accredited by the national Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP), a different accrediting body from CAAS.  Only about 175 paramedic education programs are accredited in the United States, including only a handful in Michigan.  We are proud of the fact that HVA's accreditation was the first granted in the United States for an ambulance service-sponsored program (the others are community college or hospital based).

HVA is proud of both of our national accreditations.
