2012 HVA Citizens Academy offers insider's view of EMS
New Date - April 4 to May 9
If going behind-the-scenes at Huron Valley Ambulance to
learn about Emergency Medical Services is on your bucket
list, you will want to be sure to register for HVA Citizens Academy. The
free
interactive 8 week Academy is an opportunity for participants to explore
what it takes to provide quality emergency medical services to HVA's
multi-county service
area.
Academy participants learn how 9-1-1 medical calls are
triaged and dispatched, see demonstrations of equipment and procedures used
by EMS crews in the field and get trained in the latest hands-on chest
compression CPR techniques. In addition, guest lecturers from local fire and
police departments and HVA special operations teams share first-hand
knowledge of public safety procedures.
Highlights of the Citizens Academy include:
·
a tour the HVA facility, including the 9-1-1 Call center
·
hands on training that leads to CPR and First Aid
certification
·
interactive demonstrations of the life-saving skills
used HVA paramedics use in emergency situations
The Citizens Academy runs for
six consecutive Wednesday starting April 4 through May 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. at HVA’s Ann Arbor headquarters
located at 1200 State Circle.
Be sure to register early so you do not miss the opportunity to check this exceptional experience off your bucket list. The Academy is limited to 25 participants on a first come, first served basis and is only offered once a year. There is no charge to attend. Participants must be at least 18 years old and live in Washtenaw County or one of the following western Wayne County communities: Belleville, Plymouth, Plymouth Township, Sumpter Township, and Van Buren Township.
