Rob Foster honored as 2010 Plymouth Rotary Paramedic of the Year

The Rotary Club of Plymouth honored three police officers, a firefighter and a paramedic of the Year on January 7 at the Plymouth Cultural Center. The Paramedic of the Year award went to Huron Valley Ambulance’s Rob Foster. Rob is based at the HVA Eastern Operations Headquarters located in the City of Plymouth. HVA Vice-President for Eastern Operations Paul Hood stated in his introduction that "Rob has excellent skills, excellent bedside manner and always puts the needs of his patients above his own. When someone calls 911 for assistance, they are normally scared and nervous. He not only takes care of the patients' needs, but those of the patient’s family as well."

Rob (pictured at left with Paul Hood) was born in Redford, Michigan, grew up in Livonia and graduated from Churchill High School. Rob attained a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University, majoring in sports medicine, with an emphasis on cardiac rehabilitation.

After graduating from EMU, Rob worked in orthopedic physical therapy for a group of surgeons for about eight years. Rob then decided it was time for a career change, and attended paramedic school through Huron Valley Ambulance.

Rob was hired by HVA and has been an exemplary employee for almost 10 years. In that time frame, Rob has been trained as a Mobile Intensive Care Unit paramedic and a Field Training Officer. Rob presently lives in Canton with his wife Michelle and their three daughters.

Rob received an individual plaque as well as a Paul Harris Fellowship, which is one of Rotary’s highest honors. The Paul Harris Fellowship means that the Rotary Club of Plymouth has donated $1,000 in the name of the honoree to the Rotary International Foundation for use in service projects around the world. Rob's name will also be added to a plague that hangs in the HVA eastern headquarters that lists the past Paramedics of the Year, all from HVA.
