The Huron Valley Ambulance Board of Trustees honors organizations for their efforts in providing a heart safe environment for visitors and staff. Each organization has created a Heart Safe environment by having:
- Automated external defibrillators in their building(s)
- CPR/AED trained staff on site for all shifts when open or working
- A regularly practiced cardiac emergency response plan

If you would like to nominate an organization for a Heart Safe Organization Award, please contact our Community Relations Department. Awards winners are recognized by the HVA Board of Trustees each year during Emergency Medical Services Week in May and winning organizations receive a plaque for their building. To be eligible for this award, the nominated organization must meet the following criteria:
- Operate in the HVA service area, or in the service area of one of our affiliated ambulance services (all or part of Washtenaw, Wayne, Oakland, Jackson, Calhoun, Lenawee or Monroe counties.
- Provide public access automated defibrillators in or near all of the organization's facilities for the protection of the general public and employees.
- Provide regular CPR and AED training to sufficient staff members to insure that trained staff are available for medical emergencies when your facility(s) are open to the public or when employees are present.
- Implementation of, and regular practice of an emergency response plan.
