The Huron Valley Ambulance Board of Trustees honors organizations for their efforts in providing a heart safe environment for visitors and staff.  Each organization has created a Heart Safe environment by having:

 

• Automated external defibrillators in their building(s)
• CPR/AED trained staff on site for all shifts when open or working
• A regularly practiced cardiac emergency response plan

 

The following organizations are recognized:

	South Lyon Community School District AED's in multiple locations in each school and at athletic field facilities. Awarded by the HVA Board of Trustees - 2008
	University of Michigan Dept. of Public Safety AED's in over 100 university buildings, and in all public safety vehicles. Awarded by the HVA Board of Trustees - 2008.
	Thetford Corporation AED's in manufacturing facilities.  Trained emergency response teams. Awarded by the HVA Board of Trustees - 2008.
	Dexter Community Schools AED's in each school.  Staff trained for medical emergency response procedures. Awarded by the HVA Board of Trustees - 2009.
	Lincoln Consolidated Schools AED's in manufacturing facilities.  Trained emergency response teams. Awarded by the HVA Board of Trustees - 2009.
	Malloy, Inc. AED in their book manufacturing facility. Trained emergency response teams. Awarded by the HVA Board of Trustees - 2010.
	Siena Heights University AEDs in their facilities. CPR trained responders on site at all times. Regularly practices cardiac emergency response plan. Awarded by the HVA Board of Trustees - 2011.
	Bedford Heart Heros A community-wide effort which raised funds to provide 10 AEDs for schools, community centers, police and fire vehicles in Bedford Township, as well as teaching CPR/AED use to responders at all sites. Awarded by the HVA Board of Trustees - 2011.

If you would like to nominate an organization for a Heart Safe Organization Award, please contact our Community Relations Department.  Awards winners are recognized by the HVA Board of Trustees each year during Emergency Medical Services Week in May and winning organizations receive a plaque for their building.  To be eligible for this award, the nominated organization must meet the following criteria:

 

• Operate in the HVA service area, or in the service area of one of our affiliated ambulance services (all or part of Washtenaw, Wayne, Oakland, Jackson, Calhoun, Lenawee or Monroe counties.
• Provide public access automated defibrillators in or near all of the organization's facilities for the protection of the general public and employees.
• Provide regular CPR and AED training to sufficient staff members to insure that trained staff are available for medical emergencies when your facility(s) are open to the public or when employees are present.
• Implementation of, and regular practice of an emergency response plan.
