The information provided below shows how HVA performs in the area of Responsiveness and Safe Driving.  These areas are interrelated.  It is important that medics arrive quickly but also safely.

Responsiveness - 2010

Above:  Emergency response times are important to patient outcome, as well as community service expectations.  HVA has a benchmark of providing a response to lifethreatening emergencies within 10 minutes (urban) and 15 minutes (rural), 90% of the time.  HVA has consistently met this goal for 30 years.  The response time is calculated from the time the patient's call is received until the paramedic arrives in front of the address.  Exceptions in this measure are included in cases which are beyond HVA's control, such as ice storms, trains blocking roads, and unsecure situations where the police must make the scene safe.

Safe Driving - 2010

Above:  Safe driving is important to the public, our patients and our staff.  HVA ambulances are equipped with on-board driver monitoring computers which measure acccellaration, speed, deaccelleration, and g-forces while turning.  Each medic receives an average score per mile, on a scale of 10 (best) to 1 (worst).  High scores indicate that the driver of the ambulance is planning ahead, able to stop in an assured distance, and providing a comfortable ride for the patient.
