FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions:
If I need a BLS transfer for a patient leaving my facility, why does HVA often send a ALS ambulance to do the transport?
About 90% of all ambulances that HVA deploys are licensed at the paramedic, advanced life support (ALS) level. ALS units are approved to perform both emergency and non-emergency transports, whereas BLS units are limited to non-emergency transports only. Of course, we do assign our BLS units first to non-emergency transports. The remaining non-emergency calls are then assigned to ALS units. Though this practice may seem unusual, it is a system which is very efficient and ensures the fastest response to both emergency and non-emergency calls.
How do I arrange for ambulance transportation? Do I need to call in advance?
Please call our 24-hour dispatching center at 1-800-872-1111. We encourage you to call in advance, if possible, which allows us to arrive on time, as promised.
Our ambulance services are licensed to provide non-emergency ambulance service in Washtenaw, Wayne, Oakland, Livingston, Jackson, Calhoun, Monroe and Lenawee counties. We may also be able to repatriate a patient back to our local area from out-of-area/out-of-state hospitals in certain circumstances. Call us for more information.
