HVA has worked closely with county and local government for over 29 years in
a public-private partnership, providing emergency medical services and ambulance
transportation to residents in the communities we serve.
In addition to providing fire protection, local fire departments also provide first response to medical emergencies. HVA paramedics work as a team with firefighters to provide patients with rapid, high quality, compassionate patient care and transport.
Police departments are responsible for answering 9-1-1 calls, including calls for medical assistance. They assist us with coordination of resources, and respond to insure that the scene is safe for the patient, family, firefighters and paramedics.
It is HVA's goal to provide responsive, high quality emergency medical services to over 100 municipalities we serve in southeast and south central Michigan. Our services continue to be provided at no cost or tax subsidy to local government.
HVA also provides centralized 9-1-1 dispatching services to 11 fire departments operating 21 fire stations.
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions:
Who owns HVA. How is it governed?
Huron Valley Ambulance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees made up of community leaders. HVA is considered a "community-ownership" ambulance model. It is operated in the community's interest and the Board represents the community in setting policies and approving budgets. Should HVA ever discontinue operations, the assets of our organization must be donated to another nonprofit charitable organization or to local or county government.
